How slow can you go?

I don't like to turn slow.  I find that if I go too slow on spindle speed, the amount of wood I try and take off gets larger asin a bigger volume.  If my spindle speed is higher, i take lighter more controlled cuts.  The biggest disadvantage here is fighting the laws of physics such as centrifugal force.

Is it art or craft?

Are woodturners artists or crafts people?  Do woodturners have to make fancy/faniciful titled art projects to be an artist, or can they make objects that they happen to like for themselves to be an artist?
